Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Schedules and attends Board and committee meetings; prepares agendas, and records/transcribes minutes.
  • Performs administrative and office support tasks, including a variety clerical duties.
  • Assists with the coordination of the Health & Safety in the Workplace Program.
  • Schedules and ensures maintenance of SOS buildings and vehicles.

 Qualifications & Skills: 

  • Completion of Post-Secondary training in a related field supplemented by a minimum of two years previous experience in a similar role, or an equivalent combination of training and experience; and a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License required.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and frequent deadlines with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to compose and edit written materials, including taking minutes.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and also function independently.

Hours of Work:  35 hours per week, Monday – Friday
Rate of Pay: Dependent on qualifications/experience (+ Benefits)
Start Date: ASAP

Have a passion to create a fun and safe space for youth to interact with peers through meals, arts and crafts and connecting them to community resources and providing support? Join our Child, Youth and Family Programs Team!

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provides support and assists in planning and facilitating youth group programs (Gr.7-9-School Night Out and Gr.10-12–Youth Open Space in both Parksville and Qualicum locations) which include:
    • Planning and preparing snacks and meals for programs
    • Planning and facilitating arts, crafts and activities for the programs
    • Setup and cleanup of room for activities and meals
  • Builds and promotes engagement and positive development through active involvement, healthy relationship building with participants, positive mentorship and well-developed communication skills.
  • Ensures the goals and objectives of the program are met within a team environment.

Qualifications: 

  • At least one-year’s previous related experience in program delivery. A degree or certificate in social services or related discipline is preferred.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of community-based programs and program development.
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills.

Hours of Work:  20 hours/week, 2:00-7:00 pm Monday-Thursday, some mornings and weekends as required. Can be on-call for Early years programs as well (8:30-11:45 am)
Rate of Pay:        Dependent on qualifications and experience

OCEANSIDE TASK FORCE ON HOMELESSNESS COMMUNITY COORDINATOR

The Oceanside Task Force on Homelessness (OTFH) is a collaborative group of dedicated individuals and organizations addressing homelessness together. The OTFH was started by the City of Parksville in 2010 to address homelessness and issues related to homelessness in the local region. The Community Coordinator position is located at SOS and the Coordinator works closely with other local resources to support the homeless population. 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates the day-to-day operations of the OTFH, including administrative work, and community awareness and event coordination.
  • Works as a front-line staff in performing client intakes, assessments, referrals and advocacy.
  • Provides supports and supplies to homeless in accordance with the Reaching Home: Canada’s Homelessness Partnering Strategy federal contract.
  • Ensures that the goals and objectives of the Program are met and maintained.

 Qualifications: 

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of community-based programs and related provincial and community support service systems.
  • Combination of education, skills, and experience in the area of program development, coordination, research, and community liaison and development, preferably in the community-based human services sector.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid Driver’s Licence.

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week; Monday-Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm
Rate of Pay: Dependent on qualifications/experience
Employment Term: ASAP – July 31, 2022

Rate of Pay: $17.05 per hour to start (+ Benefits after 6 months); 5 extra SOS days off; 3 weeks vacation after 2 years of employment
