SOS was honoured to be invited as one of two charities of choice at a book promotion event with Gwen Lamont and her team, who shared that SOS was the “perfect organization” to support because of our Child, Youth & Family programs.Gwen’s work is rooted in her Master of Social Work research, where she interviewed men in prison who had killed their wives or partners, identifying critical intervention points that could have changed those outcomes. “While conducting these interviews, Gwen identified intervention points in the man's life that could have changed the heartbreaking outcomes,” said Gwen’s publicist Mary Anne Alton. “We believe the work you are doing is a positive intervention point for youth. Knowing there is community support and people who care makes all the difference for young people. Without that, Gwen would never have been able to travel the path she is now. She wants her book to shed light on the kind of work you are doing.”Since the release of “The View from Coffin Ridge: A Childhood Exhumed,” Gwen has hosted 26 events, reaching more than 1,150 people and bringing together community leaders, service providers, and advocates. At each event, donations are made to organizations supporting families, with 43 community donations to date. We’re grateful to be included in this important work and to be part of a community conversation that supports children, youth and families.Pictured left to right: Joanne; Gwen Lamont, author; Camila, Haven Society representative and donation recipient supporting women and children; Teunis, mayor of Qualicum Beach; and Alice, SOS Child, Youth & Family manager. #ChildYouthFamily #CommunitySupport #SocialWork #YouthIntervention #FamilyPrograms #BookPromotion #PositiveChange #SupportYouth #Oceanside #VanIsle #VancouverIsland #Qualicum #Parksville #SupportLocal #CanadianAuthors #SOS #WeAreCommunity ...
