Programs expand to Qualicum Beach

Programs expand to Qualicum Beach

SOS is excited to announce two program expansions that took place in Qualicum Beach in April 2019, to meet needs in the region.

The Seniors Connecting program is now meeting weekly in Qualicum Beach, instead of monthly. The program is available to seniors 65+ who live in Qualicum Beach, Coombs, Errington, French Creek, Whiskey Creek, Qualicum Bay or Bowser. Participants meet in a safe, comfortable environment to socialize, meet new friends and gain information over a light lunch. The group will primarily meet at Qualicum Commons. For a schedule of times and locations call 250-752-2040 ext. 3 or email sat@sosd69.com.

SOS operates a very successful School Nite Out program for Grades 7-9 at our Parksville Community Services Centre, and we are now happy to offer youth the same access to programming in Qualicum Beach and surrounding areas. Nutritious snacks and dinner are provided at Qualicum Commons. The program works with youth to achieve positive mental health, social connectedness, healthy eating and physical activity. Island Health is supporting the new program in the form of a grant. SOS also offers a Youth Open Space program at Qualicum Commons for Grades 10-12. For more information call 250-248-2093 ext. 232 or email childandyouth@sosd69.com.

Volunteers Celebrated at Spring Luncheon

Volunteers Celebrated at Spring Luncheon

It was wonderful to see many of our volunteers at the Volunteer Recognition and Years of Service Ceremony on April 11. Volunteers make such a difference in our communities and SOS is so lucky to have such wonderful people on our team! Volunteers were serenaded by a band made up of SOS staff members (SOS JAM), they had a lovely lunch catered by Galloping Gourmet, and many received Years of Service certificates and pins. Those who have been us for many years received bouquets of flowers, this included 40-year volunteer Irene Lambert, 35-year volunteer Rita Paul, and 20-year volunteers Phil St. Luke and Alan Moore. Thanks to local dignitaries who attended Gord Johns: Courtenay-Alberni Member of Parliament, Tamie Norh representing Michelle Stilwell, MLA Parksville-Qualicum and Qualicum Beach Mayor Brian Wiese. And of course our Queen, SOS Founding member Edith Chamberlayne, pictured below with MP Gord Johns.
