Share your SOS story and win!

Has SOS made a difference in your life or the life of someone you know in a meaningful way? Did SOS help you find your smile, connect you with a good friend, or give you the support you needed at a trying time? What would life be like without SOS? We want your stories, and there’s something great in it for you! It’s SOS’ 50th Anniversary next year and we are celebrating with a compelling stories contest! Your story could earn you a shopping spree at the SOS Thrift Shop. Think about it, you, with a gift card in-hand, perusing 18,000 square feet of trendy clothing and shoes, eclectic furniture, household items, sporting equipment, books, toys, and more! First place will win $50 in gift cards, second place $30, and third place $20 in gift cards. Be sure to include your name, phone number and email address. Email:
info@sosd69.com or bring a copy of your story in to either of the SOS Child, Youth & Family Centres in Parksville or Qualicum Beach.
Contest closes Dec. 31, 2017.

Meals On Wheels change

Meals On Wheels change

The SOS Meals on Wheels programs will continue supporting residents’ health and independence in 2017, with a new service provider.  The meals for the program will now be created and prepared by Arrowsmith Lodge in Parksville, under the watchful eye of a certified dietician.

“We’re excited about this new partnership with Arrowsmith Lodge and are confident that Meals on Wheels clients will continue to enjoy delicious, hot, healthy meals delivered to their door by our amazing volunteers,” said SOS Executive Director Renate Sutherland.

The meals will continue to be delivered three days a week, with an option to add four additional meals for alternate days.  For more information, click here to view the Meals on Wheels brochure. To view the full menu click here.

Local businesses help spread cheer to seniors

About 90 local seniors enjoyed some holiday cheer at the annual SOS Seniors Are Talking Christmas Luncheon last month. Seniors also enjoyed live Christmas entertainment by Bruce Feltham and surprise goody bags thanks to support from local sponsors. The event was free for the seniors who attend the SOS program. Our thanks to the local businesses who generously contributed to the event: Quality FoodsThrifty FoodsParksville Community and Conference CentreDeep Bay Marine Field Station, S&S Body and Paint, NexGen Hearing and Pharmasave Parksville.

Celebrating our volunteers at Christmas 2016

Celebrating our volunteers at Christmas 2016

Thanks to all of our volunteers for making such a big impact on our community. We enjoyed celebrating active volunteers at the Christmas Volunteer Appreciation Event at Tigh-Na-Mara on Dec.6. In case you missed it, we had 5 fabulous teens from our Teen Nite program in Parksville speak about how the program has made an impact on their lives. Our Bus driver Paul also spoke about the impact he’s seen in a variety of programming, as he has transported participants of all ages around the Central Island. We had a visit from Santa, we watched a video on the SOS Caring for Kids at Christmas program, some lucky volunteers won prizes and we enjoyed great company. Here are some memories.
