Need help filing your taxes?
The SOS Income Tax Program assists residents with filing basic tax returns at no cost, if they fall within the income guidelines set out by the Canada Revenue Agency. That’s $30,000 or less (annual earnings) for an individual and $40,000 or less for couples.
Often taxes are the key to unlocking unclaimed government benefits and recovering overpaid taxes, plus it will help relieve the stress that comes with piles of unfinished business.
SOS is highlighting the Income Tax Program this month, during its 50th Anniversary year, and will be giving out sturdy envelopes to residents who access the program, which they can use for the safe-keeping of their tax papers.
This program works in conjunction with the Revenue Canada Community Volunteer Income Tax Program. Tax clinics take place by appointment on Mondays and Thursdays at SOS, where volunteers are set up and ready to help. This service does not assist with self-employment returns, rental income, capital gains/losses, or individuals who file bankruptcy.
The Income Tax Program at SOS is free, however donations are greatly appreciated to help offset costs.
