Local businesses help spread cheer to seniors

About 90 local seniors enjoyed some holiday cheer at the annual SOS Seniors Are Talking Christmas Luncheon last month. Seniors also enjoyed live Christmas entertainment by Bruce Feltham and surprise goody bags thanks to support from local sponsors. The event was free for the seniors who attend the SOS program. Our thanks to the local businesses who generously contributed to the event: Quality FoodsThrifty FoodsParksville Community and Conference CentreDeep Bay Marine Field Station, S&S Body and Paint, NexGen Hearing and Pharmasave Parksville.

Celebrating our volunteers at Christmas 2016

Celebrating our volunteers at Christmas 2016

Thanks to all of our volunteers for making such a big impact on our community. We enjoyed celebrating active volunteers at the Christmas Volunteer Appreciation Event at Tigh-Na-Mara on Dec.6. In case you missed it, we had 5 fabulous teens from our Teen Nite program in Parksville speak about how the program has made an impact on their lives. Our Bus driver Paul also spoke about the impact he’s seen in a variety of programming, as he has transported participants of all ages around the Central Island. We had a visit from Santa, we watched a video on the SOS Caring for Kids at Christmas program, some lucky volunteers won prizes and we enjoyed great company. Here are some memories.

Tigh-Na-Mara Toy Drive brings in record amount

Tigh-Na-Mara Toy Drive brings in record amount

The Tigh-Na-Mara Toy drive was an incredible success again this year. People brought in a toy, gift, gift card or monetary donation and received a complimentary breakfast. The Tigh-Na-Mara Conference Centre was buzzing with people and Christmas spirit, and the event brought in 1590 toys, $3,735 in gift cards and $7,523 in cash and cheques for the SOS Caring for Kids at Christmas program. We can’t thank residents enough for their generosity, it will mean so much to the families, children and teenagers in this community this Christmas. And our sincere thanks to Tigh-Na-Mara and all the staff who put so much into this event and succeed in making it so special every year.
