Mixers for the Middles (Pilot Project)

Society of Organized Services (SOS) has created a social group to engage residents around the ages of 25-55, initially called SOS XYZ Generations, it was renamed to Mixers for the Middles.

By forming this group, SOS hopes to promote healthy social lives and interpersonal connections, start conversations and have fun.

A Ticket to Ride Board Game Night took place on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2024 from 5 – 9 pm at Railyard Games in Parksville. After breaking off into groups of 4 or 5, we enjoyed snacks and refreshments while playing the popular game Ticket to Ride. We also listened to train-themed music! A few lucky attendees won Thrift Shop Gift Certificates, and a Ticket to Ride Board Game as prizes.

SOS Mixers for the Middles held its first event on March 9, 2023 at the SOS Community Services Centre in Parksville. Throwback Thursday Game Night was complete with retro gaming consoles, big screens, board games, mocktails and snacks. While gaming can be a solitary activity, this nostalgic event made use of couch co-op games, designed to be played and enjoyed by multiple people on the same screen.

We hosted a Foraging Tour led by Vancouver Island Foraging Tours on September 28, 2023 in Coombs. The weather turned out perfectly for this amazing forest walk in Coombs, where we learned what to put in our salads (year-round!) what we can pick to eat or drink, and how to make a natural, bubbly juice!

Moving forward, Mixers for the Middles is looking at holding regularly scheduled events that provide physical spaces for adults to play quarterly throughout the year.
